When training for a PP dog, where do you start with "official" training? How much OB do you put on a dog before starting bitework? I'm not talking about puppy work but suit and sleeve work, do you have any control on the dog before you start or not? I personally have basic OB on mine but that doesn't mean he outs or I don't drag him away still for months. _________________ Michelle K |

my dogs are working obedience and protection right from the get go with proper imprinting and desensitizing. every thing i do wit the dog is fun until all the fundamentals are instilled into the dog then corrections might come into play. remember there is a different level of correction for each dog and situation. i like to do the two together for then they are both performed with confidence and little pressure. remember obedience is control and control is usually where confidence brakes down so you have to be partial to each individual dog. and everything the do is positively reinforced. we are not teaching a dog to sit or lie down or even bite. they already know how to do it. we are just teaching them to communicate with us.
So when a dog goes through the motions on there own sitting good sitz and praise. If they go into a down good down and praise reinforce the good behavior correct and or ignore bad. If you leave everything cut and dry black and white you will have a well mannered obedient dog without all the effort.
I also like to do all my beginning obedience and desensitizing off the ground whether it be on benches tables milk crates. its easier to go through the motions for one all the stress is on the dogs environment and two when they work through it and you are with them through it all they develop a deeper trust that you never let them get hurt so they will be eager to perform the next task for they trust you. _________________ Steve Simpkins
